Just minutes from our hotel is Danbury Fair Mall, one of the largest shopping complexes in all of New England. The mall itself has an interesting history: it is built on the former grounds of the Danbury Fair. From 1821 to 1981, the fair was a yearly exhibition and agricultural fair. Over the years, the fair would have 10 days in October to showcase fiberglass sculptures made retail goods, local produce, and an array of attractions and activities.
In the mid-1980s, the fair was replaced by the mall, though every summer one of the mall’s parking lots turns into the Danbury City Fair, carnival in homage to the fair that took place here for over 100 years.
Today, the mall has everything you need to get your shopping fix in. Whether you want to visit the Danbury Fair from our hotel for a bit of retail therapy, or are stopping by for a big haul, there’s something for everyone. It’s also an entertaining spot for little ones, with a double-decker carousel and a variety of events and activities.
The mall is anchored by a JCPenney, Lord & Taylor, Macy’s Forever 21, a Dick’s Sporting Goods, as well as one of the few Primark stores in the United States. And in between all these anchors, the mall’s has a huge range of popular options:
